Jarrad Davis Remains In Detroit's Plans
5 years agoDespite the Detroit Lions declining the fifth-year option on linebacker Jarrad Davis, head coach Matt Patricia said that Davis remains a foundational piece in the middle of the defense and remains in the team's plans for the foreseeable future. “I think JD is a cornerstone of what we’re trying to do, and he’s in those big-picture plans of where we’re trying to go,” Patricia said. He was the 21st overall pick in the 2017 draft and while he's been great in the locker room and at film study as a leader, Davis has been inconsistent on the field. He ranked 83rd out of 89 qualifying players at his position in pass coverage in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus. Davis had career lows across the board last year, too, so he'll need to pick it up quite a bit for Detroit to have any ideas of extending him beyond 2020.
