2 years agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon popped up with a couple of big goals in Tuesday's contest against Washington, lifting the team to a 4-2 road victory. He had an answer to Martin Fehervary's opening goal and potted the eventual game-winner. Spurgeon posted his seventh career multi-goal game and tied Matt Dumba for the most by a defenseman in franchise history. The Wild captain has been having a slow start to 2023, but he's had a good season overall with seven goals and 21 points registered in 43 outings. Compared to last season, his points production has dropped, but Spurgeon is on his career average scoring pace of 0.45 points per game. He is also the team leader with 95 blocks and boasts 39 hits.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (illness) was unable to practice on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Spurgeon's status leading up to their game on Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings. Spurgeon will have several days to return to practice before this contest. The 35-year-old has been a strong contributor to their offensive attack on the blue line. Over his previous eight games, Spurgeon has tallied seven points (two goals, five helpers). During this stretch, he logged 15 blocked shots as well. Through 41 total games, Spurgeon has found the back of the net 14 times and added 20 helpers. Four of his points have come on the power-play. Travis Dermott would draw into the starting lineup if he were to miss time.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) will re-enter the lineup on Thursday against the Utah Hockey Club. He has been out for nine games due to a lower-body injury. The Wild captain will work with Declan Chisholm on the second defensive pairing. He is also expected to join the first power-play unit. Travis Dermott will make way in the lineup. Spurgeon's return is big news for Minnesota, but it will not have a significant impact in fantasy hockey. The veteran rearguard has been limited to 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 32 appearances this season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to the team, Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) was placed on the injured reserve on Monday evening. The 35-year-old defenseman was initially expected to miss at least two weeks of time so moving to the injured reserve does not effect that timetable. In a corresponding move, the Wild promoted Carson Lambos from the AHL. However, over the recent games, Travis Dermott has entered the starting lineup and should be expected to remain there until Spurgeon returns. Overall, Spurgeon tallied 13 points (four goals, nine helpers) with three of them coming on the power-play, across 32 games. He also logged 52 total blocks. When he returns he should reclaim his role as a top-4 defenseman and should continue to see ample power-play time.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) is expected to be out for 2-3 weeks. Spurgeon suffered an apparent right leg injury on Tuesday versus Nashville and wasn't in the lineup for Thursday's matchup against Washington. Based on the projected timeline, it looks like the Wild captain will miss at least six more games. Travis Dermott replaced Spurgeon in the lineup on Thursday but logged only 10:32 of ice time. Zach Bogosian filled in for him on the second defensive pairing and notched an assist. However, his offensive game is limited, and fantasy managers should not expect Bogosian to become a regular offensive contributor.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
