The Chicago White Sox have optioned left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster to Triple-A Charlotte. Shuster was competing for a spot on the major-league roster but will instead begin his campaign in the minor leagues. Through seven innings at spring training, Shuster has allowed 15 hits and nine earned runs. He tallied eight punchouts and served up one free pass. Last summer, the southpaw logged a career-high 73 2/3 innings in the major leagues. Across this stint, he held a 4.30 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP. He tallied strikeouts at a low 17.4 percent rate and served up walks at a high 10.3 percent rate. He also generated a 4.71 xERA, placing him in the 19th percentile among qualified pitchers. When he does return to the major leagues, he will only carry value in AL-only formats given his lack of proven success.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Chicago White Sox left-hander Jared Shuster, the 25th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2020 out of Wake Forest University, is transitioning from a setup role last year into a starting role in 2025. Shuster is looking to raise his pitch count in spring training and will start the team's Cactus League opener this Saturday against the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old southpaw appeared in 39 games (four starts) in 2024 in his first year in Chicago and posted a 4.30 ERA (4.58 FIP) and 1.45 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 33 walks in 73 1/3 innings pitched. Although Shuster is transitioning to a starting role at spring training in his second year with the Pale Hose, it doesn't mean he'll be guaranteed a rotation spot to kick off the 2025 regular season. If Shuster wins a starting spot, he'll be in play as a low-upside starting pitcher in AL-only formats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Chicago White Sox left-hander Jared Shuster will serve as the team's opener on Wednesday in the series finale against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in what will be a bullpen game for the Pale Hose. Shuster has appeared in 36 games for the White Sox in 2024, but only three of those outings have been starts. The 26-year-old former 25th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2020 out of Wake Forest has posted a 4.54 ERA (4.69 FIP) and a 1.50 WHIP with 51 strikeouts and 29 walks in 67 1/3 total innings, so he hasn't exactly been dominant in his second year in the big leagues. His last start actually came recently on Sept. 9, when he allowed three earned runs with no walks and five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Shuster has not gone over three innings of work since July 26 and should be avoided as a fantasy streamer, even in the good matchup.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jared Shuster will serve as the team's opener for Monday's matchup against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field. Shuster could very well end up going multiple innings for the Pale Hose in this one, but he won't be a recommended fantasy streamer against the division-leading Guardians. The 26-year-old has started just two of his 34 appearances for the team in 2024, with his last "start" coming back on July 14 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, when he went 1 2/3 shutout innings with a walk and two strikeouts. Shuster hasn't allowed an earned run in his last three relief appearances over six innings while walking one and striking out six, but there just isn't any real fantasy upside here in a bad matchup. Avoid Shuster on Monday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Chicago White Sox have promoted pitcher Jared Shuster on Wednesday. Shuster was one of the many players acquired from the Atlanta Braves this offseason for Aaron Bummer. It will be his second go-around at the big-league level this season, with him tossing 6 1/3 innings earlier in the year out of the bullpen. Shuster fared well with four strikeouts and no walks with one run allowed. Shuster has struggled with a 6.39 ERA in three starts for Triple-A Charlotte, but it is expected that he will work out of the bullpen for the White Sox. He can safely remain on the waiver wire in all fantasy formats.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
