Jared McIsaac Selected 36th Overall By Red Wings
6 years agoThe Detroit Red Wings turned their attention to defensemen, drafting Jared McIsaac with the 36th overall selection. McIsaac is a well-rounded offensive defenseman and is smart with and without the puck. Not overly physical, he relies instead on forcing opposition out of room and solid stickwork to overturn the puck. In two seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads, the Truro, Nova Scotia native has posted 32- and 47-point seasons, leading the team among defense in both. McIsaac has decent size at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds. His decision-making is reputable, but he has a tendency to lose position in longer-sustained pressure situations. Unless McIsaac impresses at the development camp and training camp, expect another year in juniors. When he does crack the roster, he’ll be a very serviceable top-four offensive defenseman.
