Jared Goff And The Lions Working Towards An Extension
1 year agoDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and the team are working towards an extension, according to general manager Brad Holmes. The Lions' GM told the media that they've had "good dialogue" with Goff on a possible contract extension with the team. The 28-year-old QB was part of the Matthew Stafford trade with the Los Angeles Rams prior to the 2021 season. Goff originally figured to just be a stop-gap option at quarterback while the Lions looked for a long-term solution at the position but he's played better than expected. He threw for 4438 yards last season to go along with 29 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. While the Lions have missed the postseason the last two years with Goff under center, if he can lead them to a playoff berth this year, it would go a long way in extension talks. It's likely the team won't reach a deal with Goff prior to the start of the 2023 season as he's set to become a free agent in 2025. With that said, this definitely isn't the last we've heard of this situation.
