James Wood Tearing Up Spring Training
9 months agoWashington Nationals outfielder James Wood is raking through the first eight games of Grapefruit League play. The 21-year-old prospect is slashing .500/.636/1.063 with three home runs, six RBI, and one stolen base over 22 plate appearances. He's also walked six times and only struck out thrice. In his most recent contest, he hit cleanup and served as the Nats' DH. The hot start is very encouraging for Wood, who showed an impressive blend of power and speed across two levels of the minors last season (26 home runs, 91 RBI, and 18 stolen bases). He hit .262/.353/.520 to go along with the aforementioned counting stats with Nationals' High-A and Double-A affiliates. The hot start certainly gives him a chance to crack Washington's Opening Day roster but that is still far from a guarantee at this point. He's a must-roster in dynasty leagues and is an intriguing late-round pick in redraft leagues if it becomes clear that he's got a chance to make the team. Either way, he's a name to monitor moving forward.
