Jakob Chychrun Inks Eight-Year Extension
15 seconds agoThe Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Jakob Chychrun to an eight-year extension worth $72 million. This new contract begins during the 2025-2026 campaign. The Capitals acquired Chychrun from the Ottawa Senators during the offseason in exchange for Nick Jensen and a 2026 third-round selection. During his first season in Washington, Chychrun has been quite productive as he has scored 18 goals, which matches a career-high, and added 25 helpers, which is just two short of a career-high. Chychrun has also tallied 14 power-play points and added an impressive 47 hits and 79 blocked shots through 65 contests this season. This contract will keep Chychrun as a cornerstone on the Washington blue line for the foreseeable future. He is currently dealing with a wrist laceration and is questionable for Tuesday's contest against the Winnipeg Jets.
