Jake Woodford Sent Down To Stretch Out As A Starter
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals rookie pitcher Jake Woodford was optioned to Triple-A Memphis and will work on stretching out as a starter. Woodford was decent in 17 relief appearances at the big league level this season, posting a 4.62 ERA mostly working in middle relief. He's not a particularly exciting starting pitching prospect, but the Cardinals have been struggling to get consistent good innings from their starting rotation and need to try something different. Woodford has a good curveball, but is lacking in most other pitches and can rely too much on the breaking ball sometimes. He has mid-rotation upside, but likely won't be much of a fantasy option this season even when he comes back up.
