7 years agoArizona Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb was diagnosed with fraying in his left shoulder following a visit with Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday. Manager Torey Lovullo says that surgery is an option for Lamb, and opting to go under the knife would end his season. Lamb could also choose to rehabilitate the injury in hopes of returning this season. Lamb himself has not commented on the injury, but a decision will likely be made by Thursday. Newly acquired Eduardo Escobar will be the regular third baseman for the foreseeable future.--Jonathan Chan - Rotoballer

1 month agoSan Francisco Giants first baseman/outfielder Jake Lamb (quadriceps) is dealing with tightness in his left quad. The 34-year-old was lifted from Thursday's spring training contest. The team is expected to provide an update on his status on Friday. Earlier in the offseason, Lamb signed a minor-league contract with the Giants that included an invite to spring training. Lamb spent the entire 2024 campaign playing in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He logged 98 games with Triple-A Indianapolis. Across this stint, Lamb posted a .264/.350/.393 line with 23 doubles, seven home runs, and 43:84 BB:K ratio. During the 2023 season, he logged 19 games with the Los Angeles Angels and held a .216/.259/.353 slash line. Fantasy managers should expect Lamb to continue to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster when he is cleared to return.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 months agoAccording to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the San Francisco Giants have signed first baseman/outfielder Jake Lamb to a minor-league contract that includes an invite to spring training. Lamb spent the entire 2024 campaign at the Triple-A level with Indianapolis. Across 98 contests, Lamb posted a .264/.350/.393 line with 23 doubles, seven home runs, and a 43:84 BB:K ratio. Through 10 seasons in the major leagues, the former sixth-round selection holds a career .235/.326/.427 line. His best season was in 2017 when he made the National League All-Star team with a .248/.357/.487 line with 30 home runs, 30 doubles, and 105 RBI. Lamb will look to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster but will likely open the campaign at Triple-A given his lack of prolonged big league success.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 year agoFree-agent corner infielder Jake Lamb and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on a minor-league pact. The veteran has largely played third base in his big-league career but has also logged more than 400 career innings at first base as well. The 33-year-old most recently appeared in 19 games with the Angels in 2023, hitting .216 with two homers across 54 trips to the plate. He also hit .289 with 11 home runs and an .874 OPS across 85 games at the Triple-A level between the Yankees and Angels organizations. For his big-league career, Lamb has hit .235 with 96 homers, 18 stolen bases, and a .753 OPS across 724 games played but has seen his bat fall significantly below the league average since the 2018 season.--Brenton Kemp

2 years agoThe New York Yankees signed free-agent infielder/outfielder Jake Lamb to a minor-league deal on Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter spent the first six-plus seasons of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, posting an .843 OPS with 59 homers from 2016-17. But injuries and poor performance led to his release in 2020. Since then, he's appeared in 127 big-league games for the A's, White Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Mariners and Angels. He hit a solid .317 in 150 plate appearances for Triple-A Salt Lake this year but struggled with the Angels by hitting just .216 in 54 plate appearances. Lamb will strictly serve as infield and outfield depth in the minors for the Yankees for now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
