Jake Faria With Rough Outing Versus Boston, Will Miss Some Time
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jake Faria (oblique) had a rough night Tuesday versus Boston. First, he gave up a three-run home run to Mookie Betts, which would prove to be the game-winner in the 4-2 loss. He would then leave the game after 2 2/3 innings with a left oblique strain. After the game, manager Kevin Cash said that Faria would need to be checked out before he discussed specifics, but that he was "going to miss some time." In Faria's 86 2/3 innings in the majors during 2017, he struck out 84 batters while issuing only 31 walks. Perhaps the biggest concern is that he also gave up 11 home runs in those 86 2/3 innings. He has more solid outings than terrible ones in 2018 but still sports a 5.48 ERA due to a handful of disastrous lines. Oblique issues can lead to multi-week absences, so be prepared to scour your waiver wire for a replacement.
