Jake Burger Out After Aggravating Intercostal Muscle
5 months agoMiami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger (intercostal) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. Burger appeared to aggravate a previous injury to his intercostal muscle on Tuesday and said that he woke up feeling no soreness or pain. However, after speaking with manager Skip Schumaker, the two agreed that it would be better for him to take Wednesday off. Burger is available off the bench and is expected to be back in the lineup on Friday for a series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians following a scheduled off day on Thursday. Vidal Brujan will play third and bat eighth, with Otto Lopez at second and hitting fifth against Rays right-hander Zach Eflin, who is making his return from the injured list. Burger returned from the injured list on May 6 due to a left-intercostal strain, so it's an injury that bears watching with him this weekend.
