Jake Arrieta Gets In First Pitches This Spring
7 years agoFormer National League Cy Young Award winner Jake Arrieta got in his first action this spring with his new club, the Philadelphia Phillies. He threw a simulated game without any fielders behind him, getting in two innings and somewhere around 30 pitches. Fresh off a three-year, $75 million contract, the right-hander is still hopeful of being ready for the start of the new season, which is now under two weeks away. Arrieta said he was hopeful of getting in a side session in one or two days before throwing another simulated game, this time at 50 to 70 pitches. With starter Aaron Nola already being named the Opening Day starter for the Phillies, Arrieta would likely slot in right behind him at No. 2 if he’s ready in time.
