Jake Arrieta Earns First Victory With Phillies
7 years agoIt only took two starts into his tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies for Jake Arrieta to record his first victory with the club. The former Cy Young winner guided the team to a fifth straight victory by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays, 9-4. Arrieta went 6 2/3 innings, surrendering just two earned runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out just one. The 32-year-old enjoyed solid offensive help as six runs in the second were all he needed. With one on and two out in the top of the seventh, manager Gape Kapler pulled him, making way for Victor Arano. The Phillies are firing on all cylinders at the moment, and if Jake Arrieta pitches at his capacity, they’ll only get stronger.
