Jaguars Not Exercising Leonard Fournette's Option
5 years agoThe Jacksonville Jaguars are not exercising running back Leonard Fournette's fifth-year option for the 2021 season, according to a source. Fournette was the fourth overall pick in the 2017 draft, but the Jaguars are clearly ready to move on from him after the shopped him in trades leading up to and during last week's draft. The 25-year-old has gone over 1,000 yards rushing in two of his three seasons, but he's also battled injuries and has rushed for only 4.0 yards per carry on 666 career carries. While Fournette did catch a career-high 76 passes in 2019, he scored just three touchdowns total ni 15 games for Jacksonville. The Jags signed pass-catching back Chris Thompson on Friday, too, signaling that Fournette's pass-catching workload should shrink in 2020. Consider him an injury-prone RB2 heading into fantasy drafts this fall.
