Jags Could Be More Aggressive Through The Air
6 years agoThe Jacksonville Jaguars continue to have optimism that quarterback Blake Bortles can be their franchise QB that they thought he was when the drafted him third overall four years ago. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has seen growth in Bortles and trusts him more to make the right decision when he drops back. With a full year in Hackett's system, Bortles' footwork has improved and he's more comfortable checking down to the running backs if nothing deep is available. “We’re in a great situation, because we have a very good line, and we have very good running backs, which will allow us to run the ball,” Hackett said. “Now it’s going to allow us to be a lot more aggressive, because you can trust that Blake is going to make the right decision more consistently.” The Jaguars may be a little more aggressive with downfield throws now that they apparently trust Bortles more, but don't forget that this is a team that will continue to have a run-first mentality with a strong defense, so they won't need to gamble to often deep down the field. Bortles took a step forward last year, but he's still more of a QB2 for fantasy owners.
