Jacoby Ellsbury Could Still Return For Opening Day
7 years agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated on Thursday that injured outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique) could resume running on Saturday in a bid to return for Opening Day. The veteran injured his oblique earlier in spring training and has been sidelined ever since. Ellsbury’s injury came as he took batting practice, later telling his coaches before the injury was diagnosed. The 34-year-old’s role with the Yankees has diminished significantly, as the emergence of Aaron Judge and Aaron Hicks, alongside the acquisition of Giancarlo Stanton, have sent Ellsbury to the bench as the club’s fifth outfielder. In 112 games last season, Ellsbury hit .264, swiping 22 bases and driving in 39 runs.
