Jacob deGrom Takes Hard Luck Loss Saturday
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom went eight impressive innings against the Marlins on Saturday striking out 14 and allowing only one run on five hits. Despite the spectacular performance, the Mets' offense let deGrom down again. The Mets fell 3-0 to Miami and deGrom picked up the loss as his 2021 record fell to 0-1. In his first 14 innings pitched in 2021, deGrom has posted a ridiculous 0.64 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP to go with a 21:2 K:BB. As has been the case over the past three seasons, deGrom has nothing to show for his incredible start to the season in the win column. With the additions of Francisco Lindor and James McCann to the Mets' lineup in 2021, it was expected that deGrom would finally start accumulating win totals that correlated to his pitching dominance. So far in 2021, that hasn't been the case. As the best pitcher in MLB, deGrom remains a must-start in all fantasy formats. He will next face the Phillies on Thursday when, hopefully, the Mets' bats will finally wake up and give him some run support.
