Jacob deGrom Solid In No Decision On Monday
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom pitched six effective innings on Monday against the Phillies, allowing no runs, three hits, and two walks, while striking out seven in the Mets' 5-3 loss. Despite the quality start in which he routinely hit 99-100 mph on his fastball, deGrom was once again victimized by an ineffective Mets' bullpen. Although deGrom left the game with a 2-0 lead, an eighth-inning Mets' bullpen meltdown left the ace with a no-decision. deGrom, almost inexplicably, now has 13 career no-decisions where he has gone at least six innings and given up no earned runs. Hopefully, the bullpen's performance on Monday is not a sign of things to come for the Mets in 2021. deGrom will aim to get into the win column on Saturday when he next faces the Marlins at home. deGrom, naturally, remains a must-start in all formats, though his win totals may again be suppressed if the Mets' bullpen struggles continue.
