Jacob deGrom Set To Make Spring Debut On Friday
20 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) will throw his first live bullpen session on Saturday and is slated to make his spring training debut on Friday. deGrom has thrown several bullpen sessions throughout the early part of camp but will now face live hitters for the first time on Saturday. If this session goes well, the 36-year-old will then look to make his Cactus League debut on Friday. Given his slower ramp-up, fantasy managers should continue to monitor his workload, as the right-hander may be given an innings limit during the first few weeks of the campaign. Last season, deGrom only logged 10 2/3 innings (three starts) after recovering from Tommy John surgery. During his brief stint, he posted a strong 1.69 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. He tallied 14 punchouts with an elite 2.3 percent walk rate. Even though he carries high injury risk, he carries high-end SP2 upside given his elite ratios and strikeout upside.
