Jacob deGrom Exits Start Sunday With Right Side Tightness
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) exited his start on Sunday with tightness in his right side, according to Justin Toscano of NorthJersey.com. This is an ominous sign for deGrom, who was scratched from his scheduled start earlier in the week due to tightness in his right side that was later diagnosed as inflammation in his right lat. deGrom had started off the game with four perfect innings of work, but then allowed a run on three walks and one hit in the fifth inning. He threw a couple of warm-up pitches prior to the start of the sixth inning before calling for a trainer, and he then exited the game without pitching in the frame. Given the fact deGrom is unquestionably the ace of the Mets rotation, it's not hard to see a scenario where he lands on the injured list for some time to fully heal this injury. Managers should begin preparing for the possibility of deGrom being out for a while.
