Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jackson Kowar had the best outing of his young career on Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians. He pitched six innings and allowed four hits, three walks and two runs (zero earned) while striking out six. Unfortunately, the Royals couldn't provide him with much run support and he wound up with a no decision. The 24-year-old made his first three MLB outings this past June and really struggled, allowing 10 earned runs over five innings. He spent the past two-plus months at Triple-A before being called up prior to Wednesday's game. He'll likely make his next start for the Royals on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles. He's someone worth keeping an eye on for all fantasy formats.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller

Seattle Mariners right-hander Jackson Kowar is set to meet with a doctor to check on his arm issues, according to skipper Scott Servais. The 27-year-old has his third Cactus League appearance pushed back on Tuesday due to soreness and it appears the club feels it's necessary to visit with a specialist. The right-hander was acquired from the Braves as part of the trade that sent outfielder Jarred Kelenic to Atlanta this winter. He spent the 2023 season with the Royals where he made his big-league debut and pitched to a 6.43 ERA across 23 relief outings. He also tossed a 5.96 ERA across 30 appearances with Triple-A Omaha. He is competing for a long relief role with the M's in the 2024 season but remains off the fantasy radar.--Brenton Kemp

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitchers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips from the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night in exchange for outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-hander Marco Gonzales, and first baseman Evan White. Kowar, a former top prospect, was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Braves last month. The 27-year-old right-hander has struggled to a 9.12 ERA and 2.09 WHIP with 51 walks and 75 strikeouts in 39 appearances (eight starts) over 74 innings pitched with KC since the 2021 season. Kowar will most likely begin 2024 in the minors in Seattle's farm system. Phillips is only 20 years old and had Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2022. When healthy, the former second-round right-hander has a live arm and has the ability to reach triple digits with his heater.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
