1 month agoDetroit Tigers starting pitching prospect Jackson Jobe enjoyed another strong showing on Saturday afternoon. Jobe got the starting nod and tossed three 2/3 innings of one-hit ball. He allowed two walks and added a punchout without allowing a run. Jobe allowed two runs in his first two innings at camp but has gone on to just allow one over his last two starts. The budding ace is currently viewed as a favorite to claim a spot in the starting rotation. Last season, Jobe received a brief look at the majors and tossed four shutout frames. He spent most of his season at Double-A where he logged 73 2/3 innings with a stellar 1.95 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. He tallied 81 punchouts but served up a high 38 free passes. While he has struggled to command his pitches, he has flashed high upside strikeout production, making him an intriguing upside pick late in drafts.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

6 days agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe looked better on the mound than he did for his season debut. Jobe tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs, three walks, and striking out four batters in the no-decision. The 22-year-old still struggled with his command, but luckily he was facing a subpar White Sox lineup. Jobe would've been handed the loss if his team didn't come back in the ninth inning. Jobe has a ton of potential and appears to be heading in the right direction. However, he's far from a must-start during his next start against the Minnesota Twins.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoDetroit Tigers top starting pitching prospect Jackson Jobe did not have his first career start go exactly as planned in Monday's 9-6 win over the Mariners. The 22-year-old was staked with an early 6-0 lead. However, he lasted just four innings, allowing three runs on three hits (including two home runs) and four walks with three strikeouts. The No. 4 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline put together a strong enough spring to earn the final rotation spot for the Tigers and has more than enough pedigree to forgive a mediocre four innings. However, like most prospects, he may need some time to get acclimated to the big leagues, which means fantasy managers may need to wait before seeing significant fantasy returns. He should have a good chance in theory to rebound in his next start against the White Sox, although they have gotten off to a hot start in 2025.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoDetroit Tigers pitching prospect Jackson Jobe allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five batters over four innings of work in Tuesday's 4-3 exhibition loss to the Giants. Jobe finishes the spring with a 3.86 ERA and a 6:13 BB:K over 16 1/3 IP, earning him a spot in the Tigers' starting rotation to open the 2025 season. The former first-rounder will likely take on the Mariners in Seattle for his first MLB start. Although he's yet to show it in his brief time in the majors, the righty carried a 27.0 percent strikeout rate in the minors, so there is solid strikeout potential here. The 22-year-old is available at the end of drafts for those who have yet to make their selections, however, it should be noted that he currently only carries relief pitcher (RP) eligibility on Yahoo.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoDetroit Tigers pitching prospect Jackson Jobe has earned a spot in the rotation for the upcoming campaign after a spring season that saw him allow five earned runs in 12 1/3 innings pitched (3.65 ERA) on seven hits (four home runs) and four walks while striking out eight batters. The Tigers sent RHP Keider Montero to Triple-A and manager A.J. Hinch stated that veteran RHP Kenta Maeda will work out of the bullpen in 2025, freeing up the final spot for Jobe. The former third-overall draft pick spent most of last season at Double-A, although a left hamstring strain caused him to miss time in the middle of the season, but he was eventually promoted to Triple-A and ultimately made his MLB debut for the Tigers in September. The righty even made two relief appearances in the postseason for Detroit. The No. 5 prospect in baseball is armed with a strong four-pitch arsenal that includes a four-seamer that can touch triple digits at times. With his upside, the 22-year-old is worth rostering in all fantasy leagues especially given his low price tag in drafts, however, it's worth noting that he is only eligible at RP on Yahoo to begin the year.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller
