5 years agoThe 2019-20 season has been a big learning curve for Jack Hughes but he had a strong performance on Sunday night in the Devils’ 4-3 win over Ottawa. The 2019 first-overall draft pick scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the game. He now has two goals and three points in his last three games. That performance bumped him up to six goals and 16 points through 35 games. Defenseman Sami Vatanen also enjoyed the game with three helpers. He has now recorded seven points in his last six games and has already surpassed his points total from last season. First-year NHLer Nikita Gusev has quietly been heating up. He had a goal Sunday night for his eighth point in the last six games. For the Senators, both Anthony Duclair and Jean-Gabriel Pageau had points.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoNew Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes (undisclosed) was forced to an early exit in Sunday's matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights. He was injured in the third period when he crashed into the boards following a collision with Vegas forward Jach Eichel. "Real hard to see him go down. There's no update," Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe said postgame. "He's going to have to be evaluated. Obviously, it didn't look good. We're going to have to take our time to know the full extent of it." Hughes was on a five-game point streak before going scoreless in Sunday's 2-0 loss. Through 62 games, he tops the Devils in goals (27) and points (70). Erik Haula could get a top-six job if Hughes has to miss additional time. The team will return to action on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

3 months agoNew Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes scored twice and added a helper during their 5-0 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday afternoon. Hughes opened the scoring and tallied the eventual game-winner in the opening minutes. Hughes would score on a wrist shot which beat Jonathan Quick. In the second frame, Hughes would strike again, this time on the power-play. Hughes would tally his third point of the game on a primary assist in the final frame on Dawson Mercer's power-play goal. Over his past six games, Hughes has tallied ten total points (four goals, six helpers) while averaging over 4.0 shots per game with a +7 rating. Hughes remains a must-start option in all formats as he will look to stay hot on Friday evening against the Carolina Hurricanes.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 months agoNew Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes contributed three assists in Thursday's impressive 4-2 victory over Carolina. The Hurricanes were defeated for only the fifth time this season, with Hughes helping to set up two goals for Jesper Bratt and also assisting Stefan Noesen. Two of the assists came on the power play. Hughes has picked up his scoring pace lately, reaching 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) for the season with 22 games played. He's exploded for four three-point efforts in his past seven outings. The Devils star will look to do the business next against a Washington team that has kept Hughes off the score sheet twice already this season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

4 months agoNew Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes showed off some of his best form in Thursday's matchup against Montreal, scoring a goal and handing out two assists in a 5-3 win. His fifth marker of the year ended up as the game-winning goal. He's added 10 assists to his goals in 16 games. Hughes' productivity hasn't been the same as in previous years, but he has notched 10 points (four goals, six assists) across his past eight appearances, which is a significant improvement from the scoring rate he had at the start of the campaign. Hughes finishes this week with a juicy matchup against the leaky Sharks but also faces the Islanders over the weekend. He went scoreless in the first head-to-head clash with the Islanders this season, despite logging nearly 24 minutes of ice time in a 4-3 overtime loss.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
