9 months agoNew Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes (upper body) could return to the lineup at some point this week. The young pivot has been out since sustaining an upper-body injury against the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 5, but he practiced in a non-contact jersey on Monday and skated briefly in a regular jersey in Tuesday's morning skate. Head coach Lindy Ruff said Hughes will be re-evaluated on Wednesday to see where he is at ahead of the club's game on Thursday versus the Calgary Flames. After breaking out with 43 goals and 99 points last season, the 22-year-old has tallied 15 goals and 45 points across 32 games this season. The Devils are currently sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 24-20-3 record and are seven points back of the Detroit Red Wings for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, albeit with three games in hand.--Brenton Kemp
