J.P. France Looking To Avoid Regression Thursday
1 year agoHouston Astros pitcher J.P. France is looking to avoid regression on Thursday when he takes the mound on the road against the Oakland Athletics. The 28-year-old rookie has pitched to a quality 3.31 ERA across 12 starts on the season but his peripheral numbers spell regression moving forward. The right-hander also sports a 4.65 FIP and a 4.80 SIERA in his 70 2/3 innings of work while boasting a subpar 16.9% K%. France struck out Triple-A hitters at a hefty 33.8% clip prior to his big-league promotion in 19 1/3 innings this season but has yet to see his strikeout stuff translate into the big leagues. Despite regression looming, he has a nice matchup on tap against an A's offense that is tied for 28th with a .288 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.
