J.J. Wetherholt Assigned To Double-A Springfield
12 seconds agoSt. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect J.J. Wetherholt has been assigned to Double-A Springfield to begin the 2025 season. The 22-year-old earned a non-roster invite to spring camp and while there were some things he did well, it wasn't enough to make the big league club. The left-handed hitter went just 2-for-20 (.100) but did hit one home run, stole three bases, and walked more than he struck out (6:5 BB:K). The 2024 first-round draft pick spent all 29 games he played last season at Single-A, slashing .295/.405/.400 with a 16:15 BB:K. With a strong season, he'll no doubt ascend to Triple-A and a 2025 MLB debut is certainly a possibility. Possessing a keen eye at the plate and a solid power-speed profile, he could make an impact as soon as he gets the call so fantasy managers will want to keep tabs on his progression.
