J.D. McKissic Reclaims Backfield Receiving Work
2 years agoWashington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic had three carries for nine yards along with seven receptions for 54 yards in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions. The 29-year-old was used sparsely in Week 1 due to a neutral game script where Antonio Gibson handled most opportunities. In Week 2, the Commanders fell behind in a hurry while never holding a lead for the entire game. This allowed the seven-year veteran to dominate receiving work out of the backfield while Gibson fell back into his usual role. Even with this solid performance, McKissic is still a game script-dependent running back. So, while he can be productive, it will be pretty hard to pinpoint what weeks he will be useful.
