J.D. Martinez Still Lacking In Power Numbers
4 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez has yet to produce the type of power numbers we've grown accustomed to in recent years. Through 29 games this year, Martinez is slashing .219/.308/.390 with three home runs and 15 RBI. He posted an OPS north of 1.000 in three of the past four years, but this year his OPS is just .699. He's also had an elite hard-hit rate of around 50% in each of the past five years, but this year his hard-hit rate is just 36.7%, which only ranks in the 48th percentile. Fantasy owners shouldn't sell Martinez while his value is this low, but the numbers are certainly concerning. Even if he can't regain his form from previous years, he still should improve upon what we've seen so far this year. Stay patient.
