J.D. Martinez Doesn't Opt Out Of Deal
5 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez chose not to opt out of his contract with the team, so he can earn $62.5 million over the next three years: $23.75 million for 2020 and $19.375 million for both 2021 and 2022. As long as he doesn't have a lengthy stay on the injured list, Martinez has the option to opt out after each of the next two years. He has led the league in home runs with 124 and is second in baseball in RBI at 339 over the last three years. Martinez has hit .313 with a .619 slugging percentage and 1.007 OPS as one of the better overall fantasy assets in a strong Boston lineup. Boston had the highest payroll in baseball ($243 million) last year and are looking to get below the luxury tax threshold.
