J.A. Happ Shelled In Loss To White Sox
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher J.A. Happ had his worst outing of the season in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox. Happ pitched just 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine earned runs on nine hits while striking out three batters compared to a pair of walks. The White Sox jumped on him from the beginning, scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two frames, then blowing the game open with a five-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. The performance raised his season ERA to 4.26, which doesn't sound too bad, though the underlying metrics, such as his career-worst marks in barrel rate, hard-hit rate, and strikeout rate, aren't particularly reassuring. Happ will have his moments as a back-end starter for Minnesota, though he's probably more of a streamer at this point in his career.
