It’s Not Surprising That William Byron Is Really Fast At Martinsville Again
2 years agoWilliam Byron is no stranger to being fast at Martinsville Speedway. In last year's spring race at this track, Byron led 212 of the 403 laps en route to victory and then followed that up with a 7th-place run in the fall Playoff race. Currently, Byron is on a four-race streak of top 7 finishes at this track, and in six of the last seven here, he's ended up 8th or better. And it looks to be much of the same this weekend for the NOCO 400. Byron was 2nd-fastest in practice on Saturday and then went out and qualified 8th for Sunday's race. Another reason that speed shouldn't be too surprising, though? The new rules package. Beginning in 2023, NASCAR introduced a brand new, low downforce rules package for the shorter tracks. We've already seen this package be used at Phoenix and Richmond, and it's quite clear that Byron and his #24 team have it figured out, as he was the fastest car in Total Speed Ranking in each of those events.
