Isaiah Thomas' Second-Half Fantasy Outlook
7 years agoLos Angeles Lakers guard Isaiah Thomas has finally found a home, at least for now, after months of turmoil. After spending a good chunk of the current season recovering from a hip ailment and being dealt from Boston to Cleveland for guard Kyrie Irving, Thomas finally suited up in the beginning of January after fantasy owners stashed him and eagerly awaited his debut. However, things didn’t pan out as well in real life as they did on paper as Thomas’ tenure with Cleveland, which was filled with off-court drama and on-court irregular and abysmal play, came to a screeching halt. After averaging only 14.7 points per game, almost half of what he averaged a season ago, he was dealt to the young up-and-coming Lakers. With coach Luke Walton indicating that Thomas would come off the bench, much to his dismay, he has an opportunity to be a productive member of an inexperienced team that lacks consistent offensive options outside of forwards Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle. He will likely continue to backup whoever starts at the one spot, as long as he can stay healthy, and will likely eat into the minutes of surging guard Josh Hart upon rookie guard Lonzo Ball’s return. However, with his path of uncertainty over the past few months, fantasy owners may want to deal him for a more consistent option, that is if your league hasn’t passed it’s trade deadline. In that case, be prepared for some solid performances, as well as some duds for the remainder of the season.
