Is Todd Gilliland Too Expensive To Roster On DraftKings?
6 months agoOn Saturday afternoon, Todd Gilliland qualified 14th for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. Despite only having one top-10 in 2024, his 101 lead laps and average finish of 22.5 are both career-best for the three-year Cup veteran, results that are a testament to the growth this young driver continues to show. With that said, this growth and production is also why his DraftKings salary has risen significantly over the last month, increasing from $5,200 at Kansas on May 2nd up to $6,700 for this weekend's race at Sonoma. When his salary was sub $6,000, production like we have seen from the 24-year-old was fine as we did not need much from him to hit value. However, given that his salary has increased by $1,500 in recent weeks, we need more from the Front Row Motorsports star, expectations that may be too high for him to reach particularly this weekend at Sonoma. In his two Cup starts at this track, Gilliland finished 24th both times and is averaging just 22.68 DraftKings points, results that are well below the expected value on a $6,700 salary. Given that his salary has increased as much as it has in recent weeks, that he qualified as high as he did, and that he has struggled at this track in his two previous Cup starts, it is recommended that you fade the No. 38 in DFS this weekend.
