5 years agoWith some relief, Kansas City Royals closer Ian Kennedy was able to cash in the save on Thursday against Texas. At the start of the season, it looked like the Royals had solved the starter-to-power-reliever transition once again by converting homer-prone Kennedy into a back-end reliever. Unfortunately, things have fallen apart recently. Since May 5, Kennedy has been saddled with a ridiculous 10.13 ERA and has allowed one or more runs in four of his last nine appearances, including two or more runs in three of those chances. Surprisingly, his velocity hasn't been the problem, as it's actually climbed to 95 MPH on his average fastball, but his control has gotten poor and he's started leaving balls up and over the plate on a regular basis. With Jake Diekman doing well as his setup man, there's a chance Kennedy might end up departing the closing role in the near future if he can't get more consistent.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
