Ian Kennedy Agrees With Diamondbacks
3 years agoFree-agent relief pitcher Ian Kennedy agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, pending a physical, according to sources. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal later announced the deal was worth $4.75 million. Kennedy previously pitched for Arizona from 2010-13. He began his career as a starting pitcher and has made 290 starts in his 15-year career, but he spent the 2021 season with the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies, with all 55 of his outings coming in relief (56 1/3 innings). The right-hander converted 26 of his 30 save chances along with a 3.20 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Back in Arizona, Kennedy will likely operate in a setup role in front of closer Mark Melancon, limiting his fantasy appeal to deep holds leagues.
