Ian Anderson Revamps His Mechanics
2 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson really struggled in his third major-league season in 2022, posting a career-worst 5.00 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.51 WHIP and career-low 19.7 percent strikeout rate in 111 2/3 innings over 22 starts. It got so bad that he was temporarily demoted to Triple-A to fix some things. He's competing for the fifth spot in the rotation this spring with Mike Soroka, Bryce Elder and Kolby Allard. The former first-rounder made multiple mechanical changes in the offseason while trying to clean up his delivery and keep better posture. The 24-year-old right-hander will need to clean up his control issues as well, but he's still very young and could bounce back if he wins a rotation spot to begin the 2023 season.
