Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard replaced Jared Coreau in the second period of the Red Wings Tuesday night 6-5 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins. Howard received the reins when the Bruins led 4-2 early in the second period. The 33-year-old played well, surrendering only one goal on 19 shots in regulation and allowing the Red Wings offense to tie the match at five and send the game to overtime. Howard eventually was beaten for the game-winning-goal by Brad Marchand just 34 seconds into the extra frame. The resiliency of the replacement goaltender is notable, especially considering the Bruins recent triumphs and climb in the standings. The Red Wings play again on Thursday night at home against the Vegas Golden Knights. Howard earned a no-decision in the game and carries a 2.80 goals-against average and .911 save percentage this season.--Alex McKenzie
