Hector Neris Pounded Again As Days Appear Numbered
6 years agoLate in Friday night’s game against the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler went to Hector Neris to close out the ninth. Of course, this wasn’t a save situation, rather a garbage time appearance for the former closer who’s now at the very bottom of the depth chart. The 29-year-old came on with the Phillies down by five runs and had his worst appearance of the year. Allowing three home runs, he surrendered five runs on four hits, also walking a batter. This comes on the heels of a demotion to Triple-A, only being brought back to the majors due to injuries. Considering how low he’s fallen, the Phillies may very well release Neris at some point in the near future.
