Hector Neris Closes Out Perfect Bullpen Performance
7 years agoIn what has turned out to be a rare occasion, the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen preserved a lead and closed out a victory on Thursday afternoon in the club’s home opener. Following Nick Pivetta’s 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, the bullpen went even further, pitching a perfect game the rest of the way. The last man up was Hector Neris, now pitching in his first full season as the club's closer. The 28-year-old retired all three batters that he faced, with a strikeout along the way. Neris’ troubles from the first half of last season have returned early this year, as his ERA now stands at 10.13 on the year.
