Harrison Burton Fast in Qualifying, but Will Probably Run Poorly Due at Indianapolis
5 months agoDespite collecting his best career finish of third on the Indianapolis road course as a rookie in 2022, Harrison Burton has never competed at the Indianapolis oval so there is little to use to project his performance. While Team Penske is on a roll over the past month and Burton qualified 16th yesterday--giving him his second-best starting position on a non-drafting oval--he seldom collects top twenties except in chaotic races. Although most Brickyard 400s with the Gen 6 car did tend toward being chaotic wreckfests, it's unclear whether the Next Gen car will change that or not. Burton did earn a top-10 finish at Pocono Raceway (the most similar track) last year, but he crashed in last week's Pocono race and considering both his inexperience and the fact that he is a lame duck driver, a mediocre run seems almost certain.
