Gregory Soto Looking Like Team's Closer
4 years agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Gregory Soto earned the praise of manager AJ Hinch on Wednesday, who spoke about his pitcher's "closer stuff." Soto would seem to have the best arsenal of any hurler in the Tigers' bullpen, considering his blazing fastball, which he can touch 100 MPH with, and filthy slider, a pitch that registered a 61 percent whiff rate last year. The 26-year-old has had his issues with control, which would be the only thing holding him back from the ninth-inning role, though Hinch seemed to indicate that the position would be Soto's to start the season. He may not have many save chances pitching for the Tigers, but Soto possesses some fantasy upside if he can lock down the closer role in Detroit.
