Seattle Mariners right-hander Gregory Santos (lat) will begin his throwing program on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was acquired this offseason in a trade with the Chicago White Sox after he impressed in 60 appearances on the south side in his rookie campaign in 2023. Santos worked to a 3.39 ERA in his 66 1/3 innings of work but also posted a 2.65 FIP and allowed just two home runs on the season while posting a tiny 0.27 HR/9 clip. The Mariners have Andres Munoz and Matt Brash as the key late-inning arms at the back end of their bullpen, meaning Santos' chances at saves and holds could be limited. He is best left off the fantasy radar barring a notable injury to either Munoz or Brash.--Brenton Kemp

Seattle Mariners right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (biceps) has resumed throwing at the team's spring training facility in Arizona. General manager Justin Hollander said the team doesn't "have any reason to believe there's a kinetic chain issue" between Santos' latest injury and the right-lat strain that he suffered in spring training that forced him to miss over three months. The Mariners don't have a timeline on if Santos will return before the end of the season. He left his most recent outing on July 31 with right-biceps inflammation. The 24-year-old Dominican flamethrower has only appeared in six games for the Mariners in his first year with the team and has allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five in 5 1/3 frames. Santos has the ability to be an intriguing late-inning arm in the bullpen, but he just hasn't been healthy this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Seattle Mariners right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (biceps) left his appearance early on Wednesday at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox with a biceps injury, according to manager Scott Servais. Santos will undergo an MRI exam on Thursday back in Seattle. The 24-year-old Dominican hurler made it through two-thirds of an inning and didn't allow a run on Wednesday in the series finale while striking out one batter before being pulled. The M's have a day off on Thursday before opening a series on Friday versus the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, and it remains to be seen if Santos will be available out of the bullpen by then. It's been a tough first year in Seattle for Santos, who entered Wednesday's contest with a 7.71 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with four strikeouts and one walk in just 4 2/3 innings pitched after missing most of the year due to injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Seattle Mariners right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (knee) underwent an MRI exam that "came back OK," according to manager Scott Servais. It sounds like Santos will avoid a trip to the injured list and could potentially be available out of the bullpen as soon as Saturday on the road in Chicago against the White Sox. Santos will go through pre-game exercises on Friday to test his right knee after he hurt it in the eighth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The 24-year-old Dominican began the year on the IL in his first year in Seattle and has pitched just four innings in 2024, allowing three earned runs on four hits. It's been a disappointing year in Seattle so far, which is partly why the M's went out and acquired reliever Yimi Garcia on Friday from the Toronto Blue Jays.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Seattle Mariners reinstated right-hander Gregory Santos (lat) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned right-hander Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move, according to executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander. A right-lat strain has kept Santos from making his Mariners debut this year to this point, but he will now join Seattle's bullpen as a key late-inning setup man. Santos features a high-90s heater and could quickly become relevant in fantasy leagues that reward points for holds. Hancock, 25, gets sent back to the farm after making a spot start on Saturday against the Blue Jays, when he gave up two runs in four innings of work. Hancock should be back with the M's again in 2024 when they're in need of more rotation help.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
