Greg Bird Takes Part In Extended Spring Training Game
7 years agoAt long last, New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird (ankle) took part in an extended spring training game Monday afternoon, playing in Clearwater, Florida. The 25-year-old served as the designated hitter and recorded a hit and two walks in five trips to the plate. Bird has been out since late March following surgery on his right ankle, prompting the Yankees to go with a platoon of Tyler Austin and Neil Walker at first. Manager Aaron Boone said he would need up to two weeks of rehab games before making a return, meaning the earliest time we can expect Bird in the majors is late this month. It may soon be time to think about adding Bird in any fantasy leagues where he was dropped.
