Packers Optimistic New Aaron Rodgers Deal is Imminent
6 years agoThe president of the Green Bay Packers, Mark Murphy, gave an update during a summer event held at Lambeau. He assuaged fears about quarterback Aaron Rodgers' health and reiterated that he is optimistic that the signal caller will sign a new deal soon. The new contract is expected to be the largest ever salary-wise for an NFL player. The primary holdup is over terms that would control when Rodgers would be able to renegotiate in the future. Rodgers is still under contract for two more seasons and could easily be franchised for another two. So despite his current contract being outdated and significantly underpaying him, Rodgers has very little leverage for negotiations. The current negotiation is a goodwill effort by Green Bay to keep their star happy. Green Bay needs Rodgers to be happy and healthy, as last year showed how bleak it can be in Green Bay without their superstar quarterback. Rodgers is one of, if the best, quarterback in the NFL right now and he has the ability to elevate the production of all players in that offense.
