Packers Hire Frank Cignetti as Quarterbacks Coach
7 years agoAccording to Tom Silverstein, the Green Bay Packers have hired Frank Cignetti to be the new quarterbacks coach. Cignetti was most recently the quarterbacks coach for the Giants and had previously worked with Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy in stints in Pittsburgh and New Orleans. It is unclear how Cignetti will perform in the role, but in some ways in Green Bay, quarterbacks coach is more important than offensive coordinator. Cignetti will get to work closely with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, while McCarthy will handle most traditional offensive coordinator responsibilities. Cignetti will replace Alex Van Pelt, who decided to leave this offseason and maintained a very close relationship with Rodgers. At this point, the chaos in Green Bay should come to somewhat of a close. They have filled the vacant general manager role with Brian Gutekunst, the offensive coordinator role with Joe Philbin and defensive coordinator position with Mike Pettine.
