Golden Tate Not Included In Two-Wide Receiver Formations
6 years agoDetroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate was not a part of two-receiver formations in Friday's game against the New York Giants. Instead, playing opposite of Marvin Jones Jr. was second-year receiver Kenny Golladay. The Lions have reportedly been working on these offensive sets more in the preseason. When the starters were in on Friday, two receivers lined up seven times, and it was Jones and Golladay every time. Last season, Tate and Jones were the go-to receivers. However, head coach Matt Patricia states it is merely to stretch out play counts. "We're just trying to get the play counts out there, and we're going in and out of different personal groups, so we have it kind of sketched out that way," Patricia said. Do not look at this as a negative towards Tate, as his role is safe, but this could be a good thing for Golladay. As for Tate, over the last four seasons, he has surpassed 90 receptions. The only other person to do that is Antonio Brown.
