Gleyber Torres Bounces Back With Home Run
7 years agoOn Friday, Gleyber Torres’ lack of playing time during the week was quite evident, as he committed two defensive gaffes that cost the New York Yankees in defeat. Saturday, however, saw the rookie bounce back in a major way. The 21-year-old stepped to the plate in the fourth inning after New York’s two-run lead had been wiped away by the Kansas City Royals. With two runners on, Torres delivered a huge, three-run home run to left. While early on in the game, it felt like a decisive blow, as the Yankees went on to score three more unanswered runs. The Venezuelan infielder is now hitting .325 with four home runs and 15 RBI since his promotion nearly a month ago.

Gleyber Torres Feels Great After Taking Swings
3 days agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (oblique) took swings off a tee in the batting cage on Saturday morning and said he felt great, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. There's no timeline for Torres to return from the injured list, but he said, "I'm getting close. I really feel way better." When he initially injured his oblique, Torres was hoping to avoid an IL stint. Although the 28-year-old is eligible to come off the IL on Tuesday, it's unlikely that will happen. Still, it's good news that he's feeling better, which means he could return to Detroit's starting lineup sooner than later. In his first two games with the Tigers before getting hurt, he went 3-for-7 with a solo homer, two runs scored, and a walk. Until Torres is able to return, Detroit figures to continue using Colt Keith at the keystone, opening up regular playing time for Spencer Torkelson at first base.

Gleyber Torres Placed On 10-Day Injured List With Oblique Strain
1 week agoThe Detroit Tigers announced on Monday that they placed infielder Gleyber Torres (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to March 29) with a left-oblique strain and recalled infielder/outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Torres suffered what the team was calling a rib injury on Friday in the loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he sat out of Saturday's series finale at Dodger Stadium as a result. It's a tough break for the 28-year-old Venezuelan to start his first year in Detroit, but the injury wasn't believed to be very severe, so hopefully he'll be able to come off the IL when eligible. With Torres sidelined on Saturday, Colt Keith moved to the keystone and Spencer Torkelson manned first base. That should be the setup moving forward with Torres on the shelf. Malloy will provide depth for a beat-up Tigers outfield.

Gleyber Torres To Miss Saturday's Game
1 week agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (ribs) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Torres was removed early during Friday's game due to rib injury. This doesn't appear to be something that will land Torres on the injured list. For now, fantasy managers should consider Torres as day-to-day. Colt Keith will cover second base and bat fifth against right-hander Roki Sasaki. Keith is hitless during his first two games of the season and doesn't have an easy challenge in first of him. He's worth rostering in deep leagues or AL-only formats, but doesn't have great streaming value on Saturday.

Gleyber Torres Dealing With Rib Pain
1 week agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (rib) said that he's had some rib pain over the last few days and felt more sore than normal on Friday, especially on his home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which was an unusual swing on a pitch way inside, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Torres tried to play through the discomfort for a few innings on Friday night at Dodger Stadium for a few innings before deciding to call it a day on Day 2 of the regular season. He said he's already feeling much better after a round of post-game treatment, although it remains to be seen if he'll be back in the starting lineup on Saturday. It sounds like the 28-year-old's injury isn't all that serious, but fantasy managers will want to check to make sure Torres is playing this evening. If he misses some time, Zack McKinstry, Colt Keith and Andy Ibanez are all candidates to play second base.
