Giovani Bernard Taking On A Large Role At Practice
3 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers running back Giovani Bernard had a standout day of practice on Monday. Bernard excelled as both a pass blocker and pass catcher, picking up a couple of blitzes to give Tom Brady more time to throw, in addition to making a few nice grabs, including one for a touchdown. The former Bengal joined Tampa Bay on a one-year, $1.2 million contract after compiling 771 scrimmage yards last season, including 47 catches for 355 receiving yards, both numbers that would have led all Buccaneers' running backs. While the bulk of the running game work should be expected to go to Ronald Jones II and Leonard Fournette, Bernard seems to be carving out a third-down role for the Buccaneers, one that could give him some value in PPR formats, given how much Brady likes to target running backs in the passing game.
