11 months agoFree-agent third baseman Gio Urshela is an option for the Toronto Blue Jays, a club with a hole at third base with Matt Chapman hitting the open market this winter. Chapman reuniting with the Blue Jays is still a possibility, but the club could also nab a far cheaper option in Urshela and platoon with him a left-handed bat. The veteran broke out with the Yankees in the 2019 season when he hit .314 with a career-high 21 homers and has largely been a rather productive bat since. However, his production, namely his power, took a dip last season. While he still hit an excellent .299, Urshela slugged just a pair of homers while dealing with injuries across 228 trips to the plate with the Angels. His solid combination of offense and defense should certainly be able to find him a new home, perhaps north of the border.--Brenton Kemp
