Todd Gilliland Will Start On Seventh Row For Daytona 500
2 years agoDespite receiving the discouraging news that he won't be racing full time in the Cup Series in 2023, Todd Gilliland made the most out of a less-than-ideal situation during the Bluegreen Vacations Duel race on Thursday night.
Gilliland had his #38 Ford battling for the lead late in the race but ended up finishing 7th after a bump from Kyle Larson got him loose, leading to an exciting save in the turn.
Gilliland will now start from 14th in Sunday's Daytona 500 event, and has caught the eye of many people within the NASCAR betting community. Earlier this week, Gilliland was listed as a 100-to-1 longshot to win this year's Great American Race, but as of Friday morning, he was as low as a 38-to-1 favorite.
Gilliland has never finished better than 23rd in a points-paying race at Daytona, but he did come home 7th at Talladega last year, which is the other big superspeedway track on the schedule.
